Dad's Pajamas
Written in the early days of pandemic life in a style inspired by Dr. Seuss:
Can I endure this any longer?
All day long the sight is a burden,
Sometimes I begin to utter a complaint
I find I cannot get a word in.
Often times, I've said "enough
It's all too much for me today"
But begging goes unheard by dad
Next day they're back again to stay
Dad's pajamas are a constant.
It's all I've ever seen him wear.
He knows it bothers us to death.
But selfishly doesn't seem to care.
Once in a while he gives it up,
Say if he goes to take a shower.
But then that day instead of pajamas
In his bathrobe he'll sit by the hour.
Now I know that because of COVID
We hardly need to dress all nice
But that's no excuse for a life in flannel
We must wear real pants at least just twice
Every day I see my parents
It such a joy to live so near
But if the pajamas are here for good
I'll have to leave the State, I fear.
